FAQ PadOne | Media Control
This FAQ offers tips, tricks and solutions regarding common problems and questions. Please have a look at the troubleshooting chapter in the user manual, too. The user manual can be found here (PDF).
The following issues/questions have appeared so far:
Media Center or Media Player crashes
- Please make sure that neither Niveus PocketRemote nor Rudeo Control are running on the server computer.
Both applications register Add-Ins within Media Center and the Global Assembly Cache that can cause problems if more than one application of this kind is running.
- Please check if the file "wmppia.dll" exists in the Global Assembly Cache and remove it if possible.
You can find the file in the "assembly" folder below your windows installation folder. Furthermore, it is important that you use Windows Explorer to delete the file.
Problems or errors regarding Remote Streaming
- The environment variables TEMP or TMP are either non-existent or point to non-existent directories.
Installation
- Should the PDA lock up or crash while installing, please check if there is enough space left on the device. This problem has occured with the MDA Pocket PC Phones.
- I get an error message that I need Windows XP Media Center 2005 and the installation stops. I have Windows XP Media Center 2005.
Please download the latest version. This issue has been fixed. Even if there might still be a detection issue, you will now be asked if you want to continue with the installation.
- I get an error message that I need at least Windows CE 4.1.
Please download the latest version. This issue has been fixed.
Network settings
- Should any connection problems arise, please check that communication on TCP ports 8919 and 8080 is possible between your Pocket PC and the server computer. You might need to open these ports on your firewall.
- Problem: After installing the server part of PadOne, you can find the server from your pocket PC, but can’t connect.
Resolution: Make sure you have Windows XP MCE rollup 2 installed.
Streaming
- Why am I unable to stream certain files ? Other files are fine.
You cannot stream all media types. Problems usually occur with DRM/copy-protected files like iTunes AAC, DVDs and WMA/WMV files with DRM. You might further need to install a third-party codec to play a certain file.
- Quality of streamed files is insufficient.
The streaming profile has been optimized to work with low-bandwidth connections. You can change the encoding settings by opening the file "PPC_VIDEO.PRX" which is located in the server´s PadOne installation directory in Windows Media Encoder Profile Editor.
Remember to keep a backup of that file before changing anything.
